COMPETITION ASSIGNMENT
The competition assignment was created in cooperation with experts in the field of history, architecture, museology and Roma studies as well as with the survivors and the bereaved.
The assignment of the landscape-architectural competition consists of three main parts. The first is the theme of the Memorial, the co-author of which is Helena Sadílková – the Head of the Seminar of Roma Studies at the Department of Central European Studies of Charles University. The second part is the mission of the Memorial, which consists of four main points. The third part consists of the basic theses of the assignment, which take into account the binding requirements for the design, basic ideas of the Memorial and the construction program.
The competition task is accompanied by assignment details, documents describing the history of the Roma and Sinti in Bohemia from the First Czechoslovak Republic to this day as well as the present situation and the future of the Memorial.
Errata
pg. 11 (1st paragraph, last sentece): The perpetrators who committed war crimes against the Roma and Sinti were not punished. “Gypsy registers” were again compiled as a basis for new policy proposals, the bulk of which was once again called “the solution to the Gypsy question” in a frightening ignorance of the historical context.
pg. 11 (end of the 3rd paragraph): Some wrote down their memories, others shared them – however difficult it was – not only with their children, but also with historians and other researchers.
